Jess brings her stories to life for student audiences. She specialises in sharing the stories behind her books and how her own experiences inspire her writing.

Jess is adept at pitching to various school stages and uses a selection of videos, book readings and character studies during her talks.

Jess is passionate about storytelling and encouraging kids to read and write creatively. She enjoys interacting with children and helping them to understand the creative process. She uses examples from her own craft of narrative to connect with kids about their own writing. She presents to kids from Kindergarten to Year 8 in a fun and exciting way.

Creative Writing Workshops

Jess has been teaching creative writing workshops to children and adults for over fifteen years. She knows how to make the process fun and engaging. By giving students a step by step approach to crafting character and plot Jess allows students to take ownership of their narratives.

Jess knows how to help students understand the balance between planning and writing, using character to drive story and helping tap into the imagination to come up with inventive plots. Jess helps students tap into their own lives and memories to create exciting stories that resonate.

A PRACTICAL APPROACH TO TEACHING NARRATIVE WRITING

In this stimulating and fun full day workshop we equip teachers with the tools needed to confidently give kids a creative toolkit so they can own and develop their own creative writing.  

Our workshop is broken into the six fundamental components needed to effectively write stories; creating characters, crafting story, being specific, creating tension, endings and editing.

Once armed with these key skills children can develop their narratives further. The bite sized chunks provide scaffolding and techniques for students to be able to find their ways to express their own unique voice through effective narrative story telling.
